Based
in Vancouver, British Columbia, the Pacific Bluegrass and Heritage Society (PBHS)
is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the promotion of Bluegrass and Old
Time music through regular jams, workshops, concerts, and other special events.
To keep updated on PBHS activities, refer to the calendar
of events section of this website, and to find
out more about the fantastic performers coming to town this year, visit our concert
listings page.
Composed
of over 200 individuals and operated on a volunteer basis, the PBHS always
welcomes new members, as well as people who are just curious or just want to
listen. If you play an instrument and are interested in Bluegrass, Old
Time, or derivative forms of these traditions, there are always plenty of people
to jam with on all levels. September through June, weekly
jams are held upstairs at the ANZA Club, and
every month more mellow-tempo folk can look forward to Sue
Malcolm's Slow Pitch Jam.
In
addition to jam nights, there are also opportunities for members to perform
material on open
stage nights, and to participate in
various workshops relating
to Bluegrass and Old Time music.
Single
memberships cost $20 per year, and family memberships cost $30. In
addition to being a part of the Pacific Bluegrass and Heritage Society,
members enjoy a free subscription to our monthly newsletter, the
Bluegrass Beacon, and discounted rates at PBHS concerts, workshops, and
weekly jams. To become a member, either sign up at one of our
events, or mail a cheque payable to the Pacific Bluegrass and Heritage Society
along with your address, telephone number, and email (if you have one) to the
following address:
