The Pacific Bluegrass and
Heritage Society hosts regular jams upstairs at Vancouver's ANZA Club
most Monday nights during the year, with the exception of the summer
months and holidays, and when a PBHS concert is scheduled (check the calendar
of events for details).
The jams are open to everyone
interested in Bluegrass and Old Time music, and begin around 7:30 pm.
Admission is $4 for members, and $6 for non-members, and musicians of
all levels are welcome to come and
participate. The ANZA club is located at 3 West 8th Avenue at
Ontario Street, and there is plenty of parking in the neighbourhood, and
a bus stop a couple of blocks south at Broadway and Ontario.
If
you are new to bluegrass jamming, and are unsure of the etiquette, don't
hesitate to ask another member how it works. One of the most
important things to remember is to lower your volume when accompanying
someone who is taking a break. If you have a song or tune that you
want to play, don't be afraid to step in.
Sue
Malcolm and Friends Slow Pitch Jam
For
those who are beginners, or those who just like a slower tempo, Sue
Malcolm's Slow Pitch Jam is held one Monday every month from 7:30 until
9:00, after which a regular jam ensues. In order to help players
new to bluegrass develop a repertoire that can be played with others,
they have selected a variety of songs to learn together, and offer a
booklet and CD package to jam along with at home. This is a
popular night, so come early. Admission is $6 for members, and $8
for non-members.
